Does anyone have the service bulletin or really any code for the MMI fix regarding Carplay going black?

Car is a 2018 Audi R8+

This can be fixed by Sol at GeneNostics. He’s on this forum and updated my 2017 R8 to fix this same issue.

Holy ****, I had this issue on my brand new R8 that I purchased back in 2018. Unreal that Audi just doesn’t give a **** about fixing it.

Edit: or is the above referencing a software fix that they finally released?

There is no software fix yet. At least for my 17’. I’m scheduled to bring car back to Audi in 2 weeks bc my r8 shop foreman wants to try a workaround.

there is a legal issue with the early gen 2 CarPlay glitches. Reason being is bc of the issue w the delay of the backup camera turning on when MMI is in car play mode. That few second delay is a no-go w the regulatory authority in the US. And Audi basically gave up trying to release a software fix for this.

however in the EU, the legal issue doesn’t exist. So what my R8 tech will get and do is recode MMI to think it’s an EU car. And see if that works.

why I think it might is bc my friend in the UK who sells aftermarket CarPlay for R8’s has not had any problems w 17’ R8 aftermarket CarPlay installation.

I did the whole install w him via FB messenger and email. Using a micro SD card and my laptop. And still it didn’t work. So we are convinced it’s a US based hardware to software compatibility issue.

Now what I said about recoding “is my interpretation of what the shop foreman explained to me.” Which can vary wildly from what he actually meant. Lol.

However, the overall explanation of the issue is correct. I even ran a VCDS to check error codes. Specifically the USB ports. And nothing. Everything is A-OK.

which further leads me to believe it’s a compatibility issue between US hardware and software.

so what did I do? I had my old iPhone X (which I never updated to the new IOS since I purchased my 13 Pro Max) and guess what.

CAR PLAY WORKED.

Now that confirmed the licensing issue my r8 tech was telling me. Newer IOS software downloads crested incompatibility w early Gen2 r8 hardware (done on purpose bc of licensing)

Guys, there is no hardware issue with early build Gen 2 R8s to support CarPlay. I have an June 2016 build date on my base R8. This includes the picture of a phone next to the left USB port in the console, and no CarPlay. I was told by every dealer and everyone that I could not get any upgrade from Audi, hardware or software to add CarPlay.
GeneNostics and Sol, remotely upgraded my software without any need for hardware changes. I now have fully functioning CarPlay. It initially had the blackout issue described in this string, but Sol still then did a further separate upgrade to fix this as well. They can just fix the blackout issue if that’s all you need. See pics below.
