How to connect Android Auto to Bmw Serie 2 F22 ?

Whats the news for android auto cause i heard systems in 2019 will get the update to have it wireless but the 2series wasnt listed it was 3 and up?

I feel that android auto is a deal breaker for me
I need to know what cars will have it?
How will it connect wireless when there is no wireless plate to charge it wireless so how is it supposed to work?

More details found below:

Our cars won’t be getting iDrive 7.0 (that is F22s or the coupe 2 series — I can’t speak for the 2 GC), so Apple CarPlay is the only option unless you want to go aftermarket. Also, «wireless» simply means you don’t have to plug your phone into the car to get it working. Think of it like having WiFi capability on your computer instead of having to plug a cable to get internet access. The phone and the system transmit the signal wirelessly so you can keep it in your pocket if you’d like.

The head unit is different? So is the unit not updatable or is it that BMW just isn’t providing the update for the F22’s? If the latter, then BMW has issues. And is totally BS.

Thank you for the link, interesting.

And «Napster». Who the hell uses that? Lol, BMW really?

My unit is fine, loaded a 256Gb USB with all my music, so not really worried. Is amazing though how much the haven’t included in the 2 series. You would think if technology is available, even ala carte, then make it available! Like HUD. Every car, every make should have this. Lol

BMW don’t usually change the electronic systems between model years, waiting instead for the next major refresh in the typical 7 year model lifecycle or 3 to 4 year LCI refresh. The major electronics upgrades will often require system bus changes too, which are not practical without significant re-engineering and testing, hence not cost effective on an out going model.

Personally one reason I buy BMWs is due to the configurability, I have no need for and don’t want to pay for most electronic systems and other add-ons that have no value to me. One reason I don’t have a sun roof, nav system, comfort access or rear view camera in my manual transmission M240i. You can often add on things such as HUD on BMW models (as a BMW accessory on the 2-series) if you want to pay for it. I also don’t have a need for driver assistance aids such as lane departure and auto braking that can be variable in their response and often annoying in their alerts.
