Brake Line Leak 🙁

Brake Line Leak 🙁

Post by uuf361 » Mon Apr 16, 2012 7:48 pm

So after giving my car a service yesterday (oil filter, air filter, oil change and brake fluid change) we noticed a small drip from under the car.

On further investigation tonight it appear I have a leak in my brake lines (which I’m guessing was there when I bought the car but not obvious) on the offside rear by the bracket.

Car passed an MoT less than 200 miles ago which I think sounds a little dodgy, but not sure what to do about that.

Any ideas on how much it would cost to replace the brake lines ? or where to buy the parts from (tried Euro Car Parts to no avail) in case I can get someone to do this for me ?

Oh, and it’s the fixed steel line that goes front to back nearside as opposed to the flexible ones (although they’ll get replaced too as they seem to have seen better days tbh).

An hour or so on the net hasn’t revealed anywhere that sells them yet

Brake lines are usually made up on site by garages to correct length and fittings, or ordered from local specialists and delivered. Try your local motor factors to make some up.

In terms of the MOT. No chance of any comeback as it relates just to the condition of the vehicle on the day and doesn’t warrant anything. Many an MOT ‘misses’ things when a sale is involved

So is it actually leaking at the union/bracket where the metal line is screwed into the rubber hose metal joint?

If you look on realoem you can get the Bmw part numbers for the front to back metal lines but perhaps a brake specialist would just repair it for you.

In the rear wheel well, the pipes from the bulkhead to caliper are made up of two rubber pipes with a small metal piece in the middle. If you had a single braided line made up to cover these two sections it would have to be around 71cm long depending on your calipers. About £30 each custom braided pipe.
