3 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

2019 Traverse was traveling down road about one mile from starting location car shut off and all dashboard lights came on than noticed smoke from the engine compartment. , flames shorty after. Fd was called and arrived and put out fire. A fluid trail was noticed behind car leading to our house (1 mile away). No issues with the car up to this point. Car was towed and insurance called, notified gm the next day after seeing a recall on leaking transmission (this VIN is not on that list). Gm basically said that once we called the insurance company there is nothing they can do for us. Insurance company (allstate) said they will look into this. Car was a lease and we have no recourse. It seems fishy to me that some models have a recall and this appears to be some kind kind of leak from that area. If gm doesn’t care how will they know if this recall needs to involve other models and VIN’s of this car. I understand that we leased the car so we lose and can’t recoup anything nor will they work with us to lower the cost of a replacement. What if my young children were in the car or my mother in law who has a tough time getting in and out of the car, someone could of been injuried or worst. Someone needs to caer about this. This happened in norwalk CT on east rocks rd 06851. Sunny clear day car was moving forward when it lost power. No recent work on car, no accidente norwalk CT fire incident report 21-001007.

4 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Traverse

I was driving 65 miles per hour down the freeway. Oil pressure warning light flashed, heard knocking in engine compartment, warning shut off momentarily, then, oil pressure warning light appeared again, along with knocking in the engine compartment. At that point the engine shut down on its own, and I had to pull off the road immediately, to avoid a collision. I had the vehicle towed to a repair shop, or they informed me that it was a skipped timing chain and I would need to replace the motor. Total cost estimated at $8,800.

5 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

Me and my wife own a 2010 Traverse and 2 days ago the engine just shut off while driving down the highway and she was almost hit several times in the few seconds it took to turn the hazzard lights on, im not understanding why all these complaints about engine issues are being submitted but no actions ive been a life long gm owner and this is a turning me towards looking elsewhere my wife could have been killed or my 3 children had they been in the car at the time this needs to be addressed before someone dies due to poor craftsmanship by a good car manufacturer please investigate this.

6 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse

In the past few months my 2013 chev Traverse has had the reduced engine power problem experienced by thousands of other owners. It has happened going 70 mph on the highway and 30 mph on city streets. Usually I pull over to the side of the road. Turn off the engine for a minute then the car will start and operate as normal for a few days or a few weeks. In the past month I have been in fear for my life. I was driving 70 mph on the highway and my engine totally shut down. I had to avoid a tractor trailer in the right lane and coast over to the side of the road with no power steering. The car would not restart. I had the car towed to my mechanic. After the car sat idle for a day it started up. Codes were cleared and it ran normally again for weeks. Last week while traveling at 35 mph on a city street the engine shut off. I was able to get the car to the side of the road with no power steering, but still impacting the flow of traffic. A local police officer helped me push the car further off the road onto the sidewalk. It would not restart. I had it towed to my mechanic. 24 hours later the car started ok. Codes were cleared and it once again could operate normally. My mechanic consulted to a gm mechanic and they agreed the problem is the ignition switch. My Traverse has not had a recall for ignition switch replacement. I am aware that gm ignition switch problems have killed over (100) gm vehicle owners. Millions of gm cars have been recalled and this problem has been fixed by replacing the ignition switch, ignition lock cylinder and ignition key. Many more gm vehicles like my 2013 chev Traverse should be recalled and fixed or more people will die. In fact my guess is hundreds of additional drivers and passengers have died and the problem ignition switch was not blamed for these additional deaths.

7 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

The car shut off while driving on the road multiple times. It would then start back up while still rolling on the highway. At lights it shutoff and I then had tobrestart it it did this all the way home. The engine light came on. Scanner says p0019 states it’s the correlation n timing chain and cam sensor. Upon researching there are multiple cases of this happening with this in particular motor. Doing this while on the road is incredible unsafe and could have cause me to be in an accident.

8 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse

Driving on the interstate going 75 mph when the traction control warning came on and engine shut down.

9 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse

Driving the kids to school and the vehicle just cut off on the interstate and the traction control turned off. I was able to catch the exit and make it to the side. It would not start. It finally started and I was able to go two miles where it cut off again, holding up morning school and work traffic on the two lane road. There was no shoulder to pull off to. I just read where there was an issue with a short in the electrical system that causes the car to just shut off. I put my VIN number in the recall database to see what to do and it tells me my car is not on the recall list. This is dangerous and I fear for my family knowing these types of issues exist.

10 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Traverse

I was driving down the road going 45 miles an hour when the engine of the Traverse just shut off while driving. I was extremely lucky that I was able to coast to a safe spot but there was no power steering. I was on a 2 lane road that gets a lot of fast traffic and was barely able to get to safety. Car would not start up again but electrical was still on. Traction control light lit up briefly a week before the incident. At the time of engine shut off-there were no warning lights or any indication. This is a manufacturing defect that has been well documented-so many people have complained about the exact same thing happening. I can’t believe that no one is taking these vehicles off of the road! this is so crazy dangerous-someone has to do something to get these vehicles off of the road. Someone is going to get killed.

11 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

When stopping the vehicle, the auto-stop kicks in, which sometimes works well. Other times it kills the whole car, shutting it down completely. The infotainment center goes black like the car was shut off using the start/stop button. So then it takes a bit to get it running again to go. This has happened to us 6 times now within the last 2 weeks. In high traffic areas this can be a safety concern. Also when it shuts down completely the brake pedal goes soft and drops down to the floor. All this seems to happen when it is supposed to automatically start back up after being stopped for a short period of time.

12 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Vehicle was stopped on a steep city street behind another vehicle turning left. Vehicle went to move forward and turn left and it shut off and rolled backwards down the steep hill. Wheel could not be turned, brakes could not be pressed, when gas was pressed it did not go forward, it rolled backwards it was like it shut off after being in auto stop mode. Parking brake assist came on automatically and vehicle rolled into a cement pole. Vehicle was able to be restarted. Parking brake would not release. Had to shut off vehicle, restart and tried to release parking brake 5 more times before it released. This vehicle often rolls backwards after being in auto stop mode and the gas needs to be pushed hard in order for it to go forward. This vehicle feels like it slows down when pressing the gas at times and you need to push the gas pedal harder. The brakes squeak often when wet and cold and sometimes when starting the vehicle the brake will not allow you to push it down, you have to push it several times, let up and push it again before the vehicle will start.

13 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

When braking to do a u-turn and not stopping the engine shuts off and doesn’t come back on right away. And it almost caused me to get into an accident from a car from the other direction. We had this car for 3 months and it’s happened about five times now.

15 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse

I was driving on the highway and the vehicle shut off while I was driving at 70 mph. Lost power steering and brakes out of no where which is when I noticed the rpms was at 0. After we, by the grace of god, made it to the side of the road safely, we had it towed to a garage where the said the timing chain came off and ruined the engine and that it is a common problem and could be fixed for around $5600. The vehicle has 65k miles and blew up? its a common problem for a vehicle to shut off on the highway and I wasn’t warned that this vehicle has this kind of history and gm don’t recognize this is a problem!.

16 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse

I was driving on a highway and my car lost power, it showed «traction control off» and then «service stabilatrack» I was able to coast off the side of the road and the engine shut off and it will not restart. Had to have it towed to a repair shop and waiting to hesr from them.

17 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Driving down the road 35 mph, car died engine shut off all lights shut off. Would not restart, hazard lights would not work. Was going up hill did not have enough power to get to side of the road. On star would not work, key fob would not unlock the doors. All electrical dead. Was very dangerous in heavy traffic and almost got hit trying to save people around. 18 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse

Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the power failure light illuminated. The vehicle shut down and was towed to the contact’s residence. The vehicle was later towed to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The contact called mcelveen Buick GMC at 843-871-6800 (located at 117 farmington rd, summerville, SC 29483) and was told that there was no recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000. Fe.

19 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse

While driving to work my Traverse completely shut down. I had to coast to the edge of the road and then push it into a parking lot. While driving the lights seemed to go dim and the vehicle shut off! . The vehicle was towed to a mechanic who said the timing chain went and when it did it basically blew the engine. A new engine cost more then what I owe on the car. After calling around I found out that mechanics do not like to replace the engine in the Traverse because the timing chain issue. My mileage is about 140,000. I called the manufacturer and filed a complaint. I was told they do have a special warranty on the timing chain however it’s only up to 120,000 miles and I am 20,000 over the special warranty. If engine dies completely at 70mph on freeway a bad wreck can happen this is unsafe and Chevrolet should replace these engines.

20 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse

While driving in the morning commute to work, the car warning lights suddenly chime with service stabil-trak, reduced engine power, traction control off. The car suddenly starts to slow down. I have about 1-2 minutes before the car will completely shut off. Once it completely shuts down, it starts to rough idle and the whole car shakes. If I try to shift it into any gear, it shuts down automatically. Car becomes unable to be driven and has to be towed to dealership. Typically once the repair has been made, it is about 3 days until the issue happens again. I have been left stranded on the side of the road 3 separate times now. I have missed work, been late to work, and had to ask coworkers to give me rides home when it is completely out of the way. Car only has about 36,200 miles on it.

21 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse

While driving at 60 mph on my morning commute to work, I was about 15 miles into my drive when suddenly the warning lights chime and the stabil trak/reduced engine power, and traction control off warning messages come on. The car suddenly reduces power and takes about 1-2 minutes before all power goes off and car will not drive any more. Once I try to put car in any kind of gear afterwards, car shuts off and will not turn back on. This is the second time this has happened. Car had to be towed. Dealership fixed a camshaft/crankshaft sensor. Did not work.

22 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse

While driving my 2017 Chevrolet Traverse at interstate speeds, the vehicle, without warning, shut down. When I say shut down, I mean shut off completely. This was a complete loss of all power to the car. The engine shut off, the lights (internal and external) shut off, there was no power steering, the brakes where difficult to push down, etc. As I am now coasting down the interstate with no power to the car I put it in neutral and turned on my flashers. With no power steering and brakes that are stiff, I somehow was able to slowly force the car to the side of the interstate and get it to stop. I tried to restart the vehicle and it would not start. I put it in park and sat there for a few minutes before trying again. Once I tried, the vehicle started and I was able to drive home without further incident. The morning after this incident, I started up my Traverse and noticed that the fuel gauge is showing empty, but the car had a half of a tank when I got home last night. There is something serious going on with this Traverse and Chevrolet vehicles in general. This is the 2nd different vehicle that I have owned that has shut down while driving down the road. The 1st car was a 2016 Chevrolet impala.

23 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse

A number of months ago, while I was driving on the highway all lights on the dashboard went on an a message displaying «reduced power engine» was displayed. At the same time, that is exactly what happened. , the engine power was reduced for few seconds and then everything went back to normal. Months before the described incident, I received a letter from Chevrolet describing this issue and stating about an extended warranty to cover this issue. I went to the dealership and I was I will be charged roughly $150. 00 to detect the issue and, if and only if, certain codes were displayed on the scan, it will be covered by the extended warranty. Since it was expensive I decided to go to another place and the scan for free and obtain the codes. No codes were displayed. Since 4 months ago the engine shutoff while the vehicle is moving, to start the engine is required to stop by any possible way, and restart the engine. Once again, all lights on the dashboard turn and the vehicle completely shutoff. This had happened at least six times in the last 4 months. In all of this incidents I can not tell if the «reduced power engine» message is displayed since the priority is to stop the vehicle. I took the vehicle couple weeks ago to the dealership and I was charged about $150. 00 to diagnose the problem. The feedback from Chevrolet was that nothing was with in the vehicle. It is inconceivable that I was charged that much by Chevrolet to come back with a response that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. Chevrolet is well aware (the letter received in the past) there is an issue with the vehicle. Furthermore, the internet is plenty of people describing the same issue with the Traverse. I do not know the parameters of NHTSA to call when should be a recall , but based on the letter that Chevrolet sent, and the multiple complains suggests it might be.

24 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse

The first incident happened Dec 2015. Driving out of town on the highway and vehicle shut completely off barley missed and oncoming 18 wheeler. Took it to the dealership they informed me that Chevrolet is aware of the problem. They patched the problem. Today 1/27/2017 a year later the same problem. Driving to work and the vehicle shuts off while driving. Called the Chevrolet corporate number when I was telling them what about the vehicle shutting off. Chevrolet corporate customer services male was telling me what the problem may be the engine and telling what the vehicle was doing when the vehicle shut off, how the powertran lock. But they refuse to repair the vehicle telling me that I would have to pay out of pocket. Why, should I have to pay out of pocket when Chevrolet is aware of the problem and the dealership also informed me that Chevrolet is aware of the problem put does not want to do recall on the vehicle. I was explaining the Chevrolet corporate that each time this could have been a fatal car accident. But Chevrolet response was sorry to hear but here is nothing we can do.

25 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse

My wife and I were driving our 2015 Chevrolet Traverse on the interstate traveling at 80mph. When I took my foot off the accelerator the accelerator stayed in the down position and continued to accelerate the vehicle. We were up to 90 mph. I put my feet on the brakes and was able to slow the vehicle to 70mph. The accelerator was still stuck in the floored position and fighting the brakes. I was able to manipulate my foot behind the accelerator and after several attempts to pull the accelerator up it released. There was a loud clunk and we were able to pull the car off the interstate. When the car was placed in park, all the warning lights went on and the engine shut off. The vehicle would no longer start. Chevrolet towed the vehicle to the dealership where it was discovered the accelerator sensor and module went ‘bad’ per the dealer. The sensor malfunction caused the accelerator to stick per the dealership.

27 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse

While at a stop sign our 2010 Traverse shut off. It powered down everything, it would start up again but would shut down several times again. My son was in the passenger seat and noticed when he pressed down on a certain spot on the passenger side floor the car shut off. We have our car at the Chevrolet place now and they were very skeptical until my son placed his foot on the spot and the car shut down right in front of them. They will be looking at the car Monday 10/13/14 to see what the problem is. This car in no longer under warranty, I would think this is Chevrolet problem with the Traverse. (?).
