5 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

The cable system to lay down the rear 60/40 split bench rear seat is all messed up. Several of the cables have stretched and or broken off at their connecting points under the seats and in the back of the seats under the upholstery. To add to the problem, the tap pull to pull the bottom of the seat on the 60 side no longer operates properly in order to flip that part of the seat forward. These problems have virtually rendered the third row seats, and or the expanding of the cargo area useless. Not only has this problem rendered the middle and back of the vehicle useless, it is also a safety issue! this problem should be a recall on all these models before someone gets trapped in the back of the vehicle in the instance of a severe wreck, or god forbid a fire. Someone could get trapped and burn to death.

6 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

The rear seat release cable is faulty and I was unable to get out of the back compartment (after the door hatch was closed). This is hazardous because the third row seating area is back there, and without a means of easy release a passenger might be trapped in an emergency.

7 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Back seat behind the driver will not release to lay flat. We have had mechanics look at and only one was able to get it to release. As long as the seat is put gently back into upright position it will work. However, if it is not, it won’t budge. At this point it will not release. The other seat works okay for now but we are concerned it may do the same. We believe this is a safety issue. In an emergency we wouldn’t be able to get people out of the third seat. Has there been a recall to fix the problem? what can be done about this? thank you for whatever help you may have.

Rear seats lock in position and are difficult to let down and difficult to put up. This is a safety hazard in that the seats are not locking properly and rear seat passengers are endangered in the event of a crash. I am speaking of the second row of seats and not the third row.

14 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

I am writing to you at the request of general motors service advisor. I have a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe. At 39,000 miles one of the third seat latches in the back broke. This prevented the seat from latching down in place and let the seat pop in and out of the floor mounted locking brackets. General motors customer service sent me to the dealership and agreed to cover the item as a warranty issue and then subsequently asked me to file a complaint with NHTSA so that the issue could be looked at to see if there are any other similar circumstances in which the safety of an occupant riding in the seat could be compromised. 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe VIN 1gnek13t51r101941 part number 12478359.

15 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Seats are designed to accomodate a male not a female. Since females are more likely nowadays to buy this vehicle, comfort issues are problem. A major deal is the way the seat folds you in half opposed to reclining you. Also the seat support presses against your middle back causing you to have to push your torso outward while your legs are downward. You feel like you are constantly having to flex your abs and it is just a major discomfort especially with your back. Please note that only 1man noticed this problem but each and every women noticed it also -immediately,resulting in loss of sale to other manufacturer’s vehicle. I have names and complaints even from a female owner of an older denali with comfort seats who dislikes the new seats. Also the seat-belts are extremely tight. The seats dont go back far enough and the rear seat has no leg room. My compalints resulted in different solutions like «we can’t alter the seat at all or it’ll void the warranty» «you should have noticed that before you drove it off the lot, it’s yours now» «you can take it to an upholstery shop but you’ll have to pay for it» «the latest, take it to upholstery shop and see what they can do which the upholstery shop said not much since GMC put the airbag in the seat» knowing all this, I should have purchased the plain tahoo because the discomfort was not worth 13,000. 00 difference!.
