Brooke Shields became famous at an early age from her modeling and acting. She has continued to entertain us for decades, delighting audiences with her dramatic and comedic shows.
Shields’ Early Life
Brooke Christa Shields was born on May 31, 1965. She began modeling as a child and in 1978, at age 12, she starred in the movie Pretty Baby. She received acclaim for her role as a prostitute at the start of the 20th century and continued to model through her teens.
Hitting It Big in the 80‘s
In 1980, Shields starred in The Blue Lagoon as a young girl stranded on an island with a young boy. The next year she starred in the movie, Endless Love. These two movies helped Shields become a household name and the world waited to see what she would do next. Shields surprised them all by taking a break to attend Princeton University in 1983.
Shields returned to her acting and modeling career after college, taking mostly minor roles in movies. In the 1990s, she shifted her focus to television, starring in the popular sitcom Suddenly Susan from 1996 to 2000. She went on to star in Lipstick Jungle from 2008 to 2009.
In 1997, Shields married tennis star, Andre Agassi. Unfortunately, their marriage ended in divorce in 1999. However, two years later, Shields married Chris Henchy. This union gave her two children and is still going strong.
Battles with Postpartum Depression
Shields was very vocal about her battles with postpartum. She discussed the depression and suicidal thoughts and the struggles to attend to her baby on The Oprah Winfrey Show to help educate the public about the condition. She also wrote a book, Down Came the Rain, to further awareness about postpartum depression.
