Disagree. Why subject yourself to serious injury because of a little discomfort. You and your loved ones would appreciate the belt if an accident occurred. I can not believe that I of all people would support something the government has dictated. In this single case I happen to agree with them. Have seen some major crashes at sports car races that made me a believer. I also am old enough that I put seat belts in cars before they were required.

Do want to read more of your posts about your Transit. Do not cut it short. I do like your black Transit, please do not make it a hearse.

Now I will get off my soap box!

The insurance lobby is primarily responsible for the seat belt laws, but if you ask a highway patrol officer they would be happy to set you straight on the benefits. They get to see the consequences of not wearing one just about every day. Me, I hate them. About 15 years ago I had an F150 and for some reason the belt on that truck annoyed me. My fix was to take a medium size binder clip (small and large don’t work) and use it to take the tension out of the belt. Now I’m spoiled and do it on everything I drive. Hopefully the bomb in the b pillar (AKA pre-tensioner) will save me from myself.

Edit: To answer the OP, yes. You can buy an insert to fake the van into thinking your belt is on. Try chimestopper.com

Rate suckers! haha like that new commerical

They are proven to save lives and reduce serious injury, why on earth would you not wear them? I’m so use to them that I reach for it when I sit on my lawnmower. Good habit to get into.

Found out how to disable the belts for those who want to do it. This is right out of the owners manual.

Switching the Belt-Minder on and off
WARNING
While the system allows you to switch it off, this system is designed to improve your chances of being safely belted and surviving a crash. We recommend you leave the system switched on. To reduce the risk of injury, do not switch the system on or off while driving your vehicle.
Read Steps 1 — 4 thoroughly before proceeding with the programming procedure.
The system can be switched on and off by carrying out the following procedure:
Before following the procedure, make sure that:
The parking brake is set.
The transmission selector lever is in position park (P).
The ignition is switched off.
The driver safety belt is unbuckled.
Switch the ignition on. Do not start the engine.
Wait until the safety belt warning light turns off (about one minute). After Step 2, wait an additional five seconds before proceeding with Step 3. Once Step 3 is started, the procedure must be completed within 30 seconds.
Buckle then unbuckle the driver safety belt three times at a moderate speed, ending in the unbuckled state. After Step 3, the safety belt warning light will illuminate.
While the safety belt warning light is illuminated, buckle then unbuckle the driver safety belt. After Step 4, the safety belt warning light will flash for confirmation.
This will disable the feature if it is currently enabled.
This will enable the feature if it is currently disabled.
