  • Just got my car and the gas door won’t open? Is it electronically locked? The car was low on gas during test drive and was full when I picked it up so they filled it up somehow.

  • It only locks when the car is locked.

Did you push the door in to release it? It’s spring loaded.

  • I literally tried to open my gas tank for 10 minutes while people on next pumps were staring at me. Come to find out I had to unlock the car for it to open. Cheers vw for the prank.

  • I found my fuel flap began to be difficult to release, it wasn’t popping open. (had to put pressure on the opposite corner to open it).

I took it down to my local dealership, I’m lucky as they are just a couple of miles down the road and are a good bunch. It seems it’s a common problem and a small amount of plastic needs to be shaved off, they did it there and then.

  • Try pushing around the edges, when mine got stuck i could usually eventually get it open by pushing around the opposite side where the hinge would be. Failing that, throw some water around it. I found after washing the car it seems to be easy to open again.
