This is planned by design. It is a feature used over in Europe as a safety item for when they are parking on narrow streets. I can’t explain the specifics of it, but there is nothing wrong with your Treg. Hopefully someone else will jump in here and explain it better.

Had this happen to me as well.
It is quite annoying along with the a/c coming on automatically.
I think this SUV is a bit over engineered sometimes.

This is the way the car is designed and is not unique to VW.
Both of my Porsches and ML Mercedes had this feature.

It’s a good feature, especially in europe. I will use it occasionally when parked in a bad spot. Just don’t leave your blinker on and «every little thing is gonna be alright»

Yes, I realize that it is a built in feature. It is just something that I was not aware of, and as it is outside of the norm for most cars (My Passat doesn’t do this), I thought some might find it helpful to know that it is there.

The first time it happened it took me a bit to figure out what was going on.

Also, it turns off after -I believe- 12 hours or when battery reaches a certain level, no worries!
Most people don’t know about this, as a matter of fact when we visit friends and park on the street we leave the markers on and guaranteed somebody will come and «advise» us that we left our lights on, thanks!

Pretty much every car in Europe does and has it. You’re supposed to use it if you park along the road and you’re the only car parked there. Other can see you better and earlier. I’m not sure if it’s a law but all my cars (all makes) had it installed.

Because the T-reg was actually built in Germany it includes this feature.

Re: (Miami M3)

I had this feature on a Mercedes once, but as I remember it was just another position on the headlight switch, one for right side and one for left side.
It does ding and give you a warning on th MFI that the parking lights are on, , but for me it was the first time I had encountered it, so I had no idea why it was happening. It was a matter of figuring out how they got turned on in the first place. The post was just so that others who may encounter this without knowing that it is there will know how to deal with it.
