Climate Control AC not cold

Hi all, I’m new to this so be gentle!

I bought my 2008 2.0 TDI Tiguan SE in January, and this is the first week I have needed to use the AC part of my climate control. The first thing I noticed was that it wasn’t getting cold at all.

When a local company tried to top up the gas they said the compressor wasn’t coming on, and that this was a job for a VW dealer. However, since they tried to top it up it does get a bit cooler. So if some cooling is taking place, could something other than the (expensive) compressor be the culprit?

Is there a logical sequence to go through to check what may be at fault?

Thanks for your help

Sounds like it could be the compressor as I’m sure I’ve read quite a few of these fail on the VW range. Mine wouldn’t cool this weekend from warm settings but I moved the dial all the way to LOW which then started to produce cold air but it needed to be set to LOW first to activate it for some reason rather than go from say 23 degrees to 19.

Let us know how you get on with that process otherwise take it back to the dealer and ask them to fix it. Maybe a diagnostic scan could bring up a fault?

Mine stays on virtually all the time, the dealer told me that leaving it off for any extended period can «reduce» its life as it dries out all the seals etc . that plus I’m lazy lol .

Just in case you need new parts, This company supplies identical parts at a very substantial price cut compared to the dealer prices. I have used them for the part and the dealer fit and re-gass the system. Only drawback is no dealer warranty, but the co. that supplies gives one.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I bought it from a private seller who will probably be less than keen to do anything about sorting it out!

I will contact a specialist/VAG dealer and see where that gets me. Interesting thoughts about VW paying some of the costs if a replacement is needed! Definitely worth a try!

Hi guys i know this is a couple of months old now but my Tig is in the dealer with Air con compressor failure.

Though it needed a re-gas so booked it in then was told that the Compressor and Dryer need to be changed as the bolt on the pulley has started to loosen aparently its a known problem with the Delphi Compressor. My Tig has warranty so 100% covered.

Now for the best bit, Due to be going on holiday with the caravan in 2 weeks time and have been told the compressor is on BACK ORDER and i cannot use my car until the work has been carried out as the bolt holding the pulley on could come out altogether and i could lose my belt so fingers crossed they get some stock in soon.
